School Zone & Transport

As a specialist school we do no not have a specified enrolment zone however, we do have a Designated Transport Area (DTA) that you must live within to access the school bus service. Please contact the school for more information about our DTA.

The students with Disabilities Transport Program (SDTP) provide transport assistance for eligible students attending our school. The program aims to assist families in transporting their student to school and is a contribution towards costs they incur. 

However, attendance at a specialist school does not automatically entitle a student to assistance or exclude parents/guardians from being primarily responsible for their child’s transport arrangements.

To be eligible for transport assistance under the SDTP, students are required to have Tier 3 Student-Level Funding, reside within the Designated Transport Area (DTA), live more than 4.8ms from the school, and are enrolled for 3 or mare days per week.

Transport assistance is usually provided as a STDP school bus, where pick up and drop off points are allocated along a predetermined route. Upon receival of a completed bus application form, parents/guardians will meet with the school bus coordinator to discuss and consolidate an Individual Travel Plan. During the meeting we will confirm bus route, bus expectations, regulation tools, pick up and drop off times and any medical needs of the student whilst travelling onboard the bus, to ensure successful long term bus travel.

Alternatively, if bus transport is not accessible due to physical, behavioural or health reasons, families may apply for a conveyance allowance where a student travels in a private car to and from school. The conveyancing allowance will be assessed by the Student Transport Unit to determine payment.

A family may also apply for travel assistance through the Travel Education Framework. There is an expectation that students with access to public transport and are assessed as cognitively, emotionally and behaviourally able, will or will be taught how to travel independently to and from school. The cost associated with the public transport ticket will be reimbursed through a conveyancing allowance.

Taxis may be considered as feeder services to a SDTP-provided bus service or in a situation where it can be demonstrated that a taxi service is more cost efficient in the long-term than a bus service. Supervision is not provided during taxi travel, so students requiring supervision during transport will generally not be considered for taxi travel.
